Bingo: The municipality of Bingo is undertaking a significant step towards the regularization of traditional healers within its jurisdiction. The initiative was marked by a strategic meeting held on Tuesday, June 23, aimed at structuring and promoting traditional medicine practices in the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting was chaired by Yacouba Gouem, the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), and was attended by various stakeholders, including Dr. Gansonr© Sakaria, five Head Nurses from local health facilities, and numerous traditional healers. The central goal was to ensure compliance with existing regulations governing traditional medicine and pharmacopoeia in Burkina Faso, aligning with directives from the High Commissioner of Boulkiemd©, Salimata Ouedraogo/Sanou.
Yacouba Gouem emphasized the importance of adhering to Decree No. 2012-1035 of December 28, 2012, which outlines the conditions for the establishment and operation of traditional medicine practices. He urged traditional healers operating without proper authorization to engage with authorities to regularize their status. The session also included a mapping exercise to better structure the sector and enhance its compliance with legal standards.
Dr. Gansonr© and the Integrated Care Pathologists (ICP) elaborated on the administrative procedures required for authorization, expressing their commitment to support traditional healers through this legalization process. They highlighted the necessity of maintaining hygiene and safety standards in traditional healing practices, aligning with national health guidelines.
Furthermore, the municipality’s leadership stressed the importance of integrating traditional and modern medical practices to improve overall healthcare delivery. The session concluded with a call to action for traditional healers to participate in the cultivation of medicinal plants, supporting biodiversity and the preservation of local flora. This effort underscores the essential role of traditional medicine in the community’s health and well-being.
