Wahgnion Gold Operations Reports 2025 Management Activities at Accountability Day in Niankorodougou

Ouagadougou: The mining company Wahgnion Gold Operations held its accountability day for its activities carried out in 2025 on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Niankorodougou, a rural commune located 30 km from Sindou, the capital of the L©raba province. The ceremony was presided over by the governor of the Tannounyan region, Patrick Y©y©.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Wahgnion Gold Operations (WGO) organized the accountability day to maintain trust through responsible and transparent management of its activities with the population and stakeholders. This event, the second of its kind since 2019, aimed to present the impact of mining on social and environmental development, address challenges, and project prospects for the current year 2026.

The company reported revenue figures, investments, and production results from 2025 to the participants. In terms of local development, WGO generated 1,000 direct jobs and over 900 additional jobs with the support of its business partners. The company supported market gardening cooperatives, women’s groups, and livestock farmers in implementing community projects. A notable achievement was the construction of the Prefect’s residence at a cost of 48 million 901 thousand 840 CFA francs, with 26% of the cost covered by subcontracting companies.

WGO’s land compensation policy provided certificates to 40 individuals, with funding spread over five years, and offered impacted communities access to rehabilitated land. However, challenges such as youth employment expectations, aging equipment, road maintenance, and infrastructure improvements remain.

Looking to the future, Dr. Sagnonma Eric Da, the general manager of the mine, emphasized the necessity of strengthening dialogues with stakeholders. The company aims to develop self-employment mechanisms for young people and plans to reactivate the community radio station in Niankorodougou to enhance communication. “We plan to produce more than 90,000 ounces, carry out an interconnection project with SONABEL, and acquire an extension of the operating permit,” stated Dr. Da.

His Majesty, the Chief of Niankorodougou, expressed his gratitude to mine workers and authorities, highlighting the day’s importance to the local community. Governor Patrick Y©y© praised the event, aligning it with the vision of Captain Ibrahim Traor©, Head of State, for transparent and sound public affairs management. He urged the youth and residents of Niankorodougou to be resilient and support the mine’s initiatives.

The day included the official handover of rolling stock to decentralized services, the inauguration of the prefect’s residence, and tree planting activities. Since August 2024, WGO has been a subsidiary of the Soci©t© de participation mini¨re du Burkina Faso (SOPAMIB), owned by the Burkinabe state.
