Burkina Faso Organizes Cross-Country Race to Combat Drug Use


Ouagadougou: As part of the commemorative activities for the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Ministry of Security, through the Permanent Secretariat of the National Committee for the Fight Against Drugs (SP-CNLD), organized a cross-country race and an aerobics session in Ouagadougou. This initiative aimed to promote a collective stand against the consumption of narcotics.



According to Burkina Information Agency, students from the National Police Academy, alongside staff from the Ministry of Security and the academy, participated in the event. They covered a distance of over 3 km, starting from the Police Academy and weaving through several streets in the Gounghin district. The Technical Advisor to the Minister of Security, Police Inspector General Emmanuel No«l Kabor©, led the race, emphasizing the unifying power of sports in the fight against drug abuse. He praised the Permanent Secretariat of the National Committee for organizing the event and highlighted the importance of sports in bringing people together to combat drug use.



Police Inspector General Kabor© stressed the development and implementation of a national strategy against drugs, urging the population to start with children’s education to prevent drug abuse. He emphasized that drugs can destroy young lives and called on parents to supervise their children closely. He also urged the public to assist defense and security forces in combating drug trafficking, noting that drugs often enter the country through unofficial channels.



Divisional Police Commissioner Boukari Traor©, Permanent Secretary of the National Committee for the Fight Against Drugs, announced that the official launch of the day will take place on June 26th. This day serves as an opportunity for Burkina Faso to reaffirm its commitment to the fight against drugs and review the actions taken over the past year. He emphasized the necessity of public cooperation in effectively tackling drug trafficking, reminding everyone of recent discoveries of large quantities of pills hidden on motorcycles and scooters. Traor© asserted that combating drug trafficking is a collective responsibility and called for public participation in this critical battle.
