Houet: The MSF Academy for Healthcare is deploying a Basic Clinical Nursing training program in Bobo Dioulasso. The Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Academy for Healthcare launched a new training cohort dedicated to Basic Clinical Nursing (BCN) in the city on Wednesday at the Muraz Center in Bobo Dioulasso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this training marks the second cohort of the MSF Academy for Healthcare, following a first program dedicated to Obstetrics and Women's Health, whose certification ceremony was held in October 2025. The SICB training program, scheduled to last 18 months, will bring together more than sixty learners from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. Participants come from both MSF projects and the Dafra health district.
The launch ceremony was held under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the Guiriko region, Souleymane Nakanabo, representing the Governor, in the presence of administrative and health authorities, partners, and MSF teams. On this occasion, the Secretary General commended MSF's commitment to strengthening the health system, emphasizing that the organization contributes to improving access to care and the quality of health services, particularly in the Dafra health district. He also reiterated MSF's role as a key partner of the government in implementing health policy.
Speaking at the event, MSF's Head of Mission in Burkina Faso, Dr. Innocent Kunywana, explained that the SICB program covers a comprehensive curriculum in basic clinical nursing. "The main objective is to equip learners with solid skills so that they can positively impact patient care," he stated. For his part, the Chief Medical Officer of the Dafra health district, Dr. Issaka Derra, invited the trainees to appreciate the responsibility incumbent upon them and to demonstrate diligence throughout the training, which he described as a major opportunity both for their professional development and for the health system.
Through this new cohort of training in Basic Clinical Nursing, the MSF Academy for Healthcare reaffirms its commitment to sustainably strengthening the skills of healthcare personnel and contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality of care for the benefit of populations.
