Houet: The special delegation of the municipality of Tch©riba is considering the creation of a municipal cemetery. The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the municipality of Tch©riba, Ouesseni Logora, presided over the second ordinary session of the year for the municipality on Thursday, June 26, 2026. The discussions focused on several issues related to public health, the environment, and local development.
According to Burkina Information Agency, after adopting the minutes of the second extraordinary session of 2026, the members of the delegation examined the issue of cemetery management in the municipality. The expansion of the city of Tch©riba and the existence of several burial sites that do not meet current standards are a major concern. This situation could have repercussions on the protection of groundwater used by populations for their drinking water supply. In order to provide a lasting answer to this question, the special delegation decided to initiate the process of identifying a site to house a municipal cemetery.
The initiative aims to better regulate burials, ensure rational management of public spaces and prevent health risks. Although site proposals had already been formulated, the members of the delegation nevertheless agreed to conduct consultations with the local populations and various stakeholders. An ad hoc committee was therefore set up to conduct consultations with customary authorities, landowners, the canton, and religious leaders in order to reach a consensus.
The session also addressed the issue of processing gold aggregates in residential mining concessions. Following discussions, the special delegation decided to prohibit this activity in urban areas for public health reasons. Under miscellaneous items, participants were informed of the assignment of two doctors to the Tch©riba Medical Centre, as well as the upcoming arrival of a nurse and a hospital hygiene technician.
They were also made aware of the environmental consequences of gold panning, following cases of livestock mortality linked to the pollution of water points. In addition, the municipality benefited from support in the form of agricultural inputs for the benefit of the resettled villages of Youlou, Oualou, and Oualoubi©.
The session concluded with the announcement of the effective commissioning of the laboratory at the Tch©riba medical center, which will allow the population to carry out several medical examinations on site.
