Mouhoun: The lay faithful of the Diocese of D©dougou mobilized more than 3 million FCFA on the evening of Saturday, June 27, 2026, during the second edition of their annual gala to support the pastoral works of the Catholic Church, in particular the acquisition of means of transport for the benefit of the young priests who will be ordained next July. The ceremony took place under the chairmanship of the Bishop of D©dougou, Mgr Prosper Bonaventure Ki, and under the patronage of the Governor of the Bankui region, represented by the Secretary General of the region, Adjara Sandrine Kient©ga/Ou©draogo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, which emphasized solidarity, fraternity, and community commitment, attracted many faithful, administrative, customary, and religious authorities, as well as partners and supporters who came to demonstrate their attachment to the Church-Family of God. Three patrons accompanied this gala, including Pascal Dama, Marcel Tianhoun, and Eloi Dama.
On behalf of the sponsors, Pascal Dama praised the initiative of the Diocesan Council of the Laity (CDL), highlighting that the gala goes beyond a mere festive occasion to become a platform for fraternal communion, mobilization of energies, and concrete support for the diocese's pastoral actions. Dama called on the community to maintain their spirit of generosity, emphasizing that the development of the church relies on collective commitment and solidarity.
Eric Tuina, president of the Diocesan Council of the Laity, explained that the gala's main purpose was to raise funds for the diocese's pastoral needs. However, he noted that the event also served as a venue for conviviality, sharing, and fraternity among the attendees. By the end of the evening, over three million CFA francs had been collected, with a target of ten million CFA francs set by the organizers.
Tuina expressed optimism about reaching the goal, thanks to the commitment of the faithful. He reminded participants that contributions will remain open until July 10, 2026, when a comprehensive report will be presented during the priestly ordinations. He also called for increased visibility and responsibility of the laity in building the Church-Family, inviting those unable to attend the gala to join the ongoing solidarity efforts.
Bishop Prosper Bonaventure Ki commended the laity for their mobilization and emphasized the importance of providing young priests with suitable means of transport to facilitate their mission of evangelization. He also highlighted the significance of training seminarians and preparing future pastoral leaders, which he sees as priorities for the diocese's future.
The second edition of the Diocesan Gala for the Laity has affirmed the vitality of D©dougou's laity and their commitment to the church's development. Organizers are hopeful that the mobilization will continue until the target is met or exceeded, benefiting the future priests of the diocese.
