Ramongo: The municipality of Ramongo hosted, on July 1 and 2, 2026, an information and exchange meeting with customary authorities, community leaders and the Monitoring and Development Committees (COVED), followed by the establishment of an initiative committee responsible for supporting the implementation of a community social mutual.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the opening ceremony was presided over by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Ramongo, Kouna Yvette Sare, in the presence of administrative, customary and religious authorities, representatives of technical services, women's associations, young people as well as COVED representatives from the fifteen villages of the commune.
The main objective of this meeting was to inform local stakeholders about the goals, operation, and benefits of community-based social mutuals, to gather their concerns and expectations, and to foster strong community support for the project. It will also allow for the establishment, through elections, of an initiative committee of eleven members representing the various segments of the population.
During the first day, participants were able to attend a presentation of the "Cultivating the Future" project and its component dedicated to social mutuals, before interactive discussions aimed at addressing the concerns raised.
The meeting continued with the presentation of the representativeness criteria, the election of the eleven members of the initiative committee, and then the signing of the minutes formalizing their installation.
The second day was devoted to capacity building for elected members on their roles, responsibilities, operating methods, and the initial awareness-raising actions to be carried out in the villages to encourage the population to join the future social mutual.
The PDS commended the partners for their ongoing support of development initiatives in the Ramongo municipality. It conveyed the municipal authorities' gratitude for this support, which contributes to strengthening social protection for the population. Finally, the PDS urged participants to demonstrate diligence and active participation in order to achieve solid commitments and establish a dynamic, consensus-based, and fully engaged initiative committee dedicated to the well-being of the people of Ramongo.
The activity, it should be remembered, is organised by the NGO ASMADE in consortium with the Shalom ODV Movement and AMREF Health Africa, as part of the 'Cultivating the Future' project.
