Ouagadougou: The Sapouy town hall organized a municipal consultation forum on land tenure security this Wednesday, chaired by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), Ourob¨ Dioma. This meeting brought together statutory members of the municipality, public service employees, and several representatives of the Village Development Councils (CVDs) to discuss land-related challenges and promote more secure and sustainable land management.
According to Burkina Information Agency, in his opening address, PDS Ourob¨ Dioma painted a worrying picture of the land situation in the municipality. He specifically mentioned the numerous cases of encroachment on public spaces, a situation that considerably reduces the municipality's land reserves and jeopardizes the construction of public infrastructure essential for local development.
Faced with these difficulties, he stressed the need to create a framework for exchanges between the different actors in order to share experiences, strengthen knowledge, and develop consensual solutions for better land governance.
The proceedings were marked by two presentations. The first focused on the legislative texts governing land tenure, particularly the law on agrarian and land reorganization and the law on rural land tenure. The second presentation addressed land tenure security procedures, emphasizing administrative mechanisms and best practices for preventing conflicts and guaranteeing the rights of different users.
Following the presentations, participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing their concerns, field experiences, and proposals. Several recommendations were made, including raising public awareness of existing regulations, respecting designated areas for public facilities, and increasing the involvement of traditional and administrative authorities, as well as communities, in land management processes.
In closing the proceedings, the Chairman of the special delegation, Ourob¨ Dioma, expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the discussions and the relevance of the proposals put forward. He urged all stakeholders to demonstrate responsibility and vigilance in order to preserve communal land assets, an essential condition for the harmonious and sustainable development of the municipality of Sapouy.
