Ouahigouya: Traditional chiefs from the kingdom of Ouagadougou and its surrounding areas embarked on a cultural and tourist visit to the city of Naaba Kango in Ouahigouya. This initiative, held on June 20, 2026, was organized by the Association of Customary and Traditional Chiefs of Burkina Faso to introduce its members to the country's cultural and tourist assets.According to Burkina Information Agency, the delegation's journey began in Ouagadougou and included visits to significant sites and monuments in the city. Among these were the location of the signing of the protectorate treaty on May 18, 1895, the Ouemba Pabre monument, and the square named after Naaba Kango, the founder of Ouahigouya. These visits allowed the traditional chiefs to delve into the history of the Yatenga kingdom.The Baloum Naaba of Boessin/Komsilga, president of the association, highlighted the educational value of the visit. He noted that while places dedicated to traditions may appear similar, each holds unique significance. He encouraged young chiefs to learn from these experiences and emphasized the importance of reconnecting with cultural roots for national development.In a related announcement, Samn Naaba Kog-glya, president of the Burkina Faso Association of Tourism and Cultural Guides, revealed plans for similar tours across all 17 regions of the country, in collaboration with traditional chiefs. Upcoming destinations include Bobo-Dioulasso, Samo country, and the Fada N'Gourma region.The initiative was lauded by Faso Tourisme. Sulaïma Kagone, its director general, commended the unity displayed between the kingdoms of Ouagadougou and Yatenga and urged traditional leaders to promote this collaborative effort within their communities.Additionally, the delegation demonstrated solidarity by providing food aid to internally displaced persons in Ouahigouya, under the protection of the King of Yatenga. The Prime Minister of Yatenga expressed gratitude to the donors for their compassion and support.
