Boulgou: Community leaders in Zons© have taken proactive steps to address conflict prevention and management through an awareness workshop organized by the Nakamb© Regional Directorate of Human Rights in collaboration with the municipality of Zons©. The event aimed to bolster the participants' capacities in consolidating peace and unity amidst the ongoing security challenges in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Zons© commune, Wendinmi Fr©d©ric Ou©draogo, emphasized the importance of unity, dialogue, and collective responsibility for local development at the opening ceremony. Ou©draogo highlighted the security crisis faced by Burkina Faso since 2015, which has been marked by terrorist attacks, rising intolerance, and social tensions, leading to stigmatization, psychosocial trauma, and displacement of populations. He asserted that promoting living together is crucial for preserving peace and enhancing community resilience.
Comrade Danny Warma, the Regional Director of Human Rights for Nakamb©, underscored that this activity aligns with his institution's mission to promote human rights, social cohesion, and conflict prevention. He noted that conflicts are inherent to any society but can be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding. Warma also elaborated on the role of the Departmental Observatories for the Prevention and Management of Community Conflicts (ODPREGECC) in preventing tensions and promoting peaceful dispute resolution.
Participants engaged in discussions to identify the main sources of conflict in Zons©, such as land disputes, farmer-herder disagreements, traditional chieftaincy conflicts, and political and religious tensions. The Regional Director also cautioned against the negative impact of disinformation and hate speech on social media, urging leaders to verify information before dissemination.
As the proceedings concluded, the President of the Special Delegation encouraged the leaders to become peace ambassadors in their communities, emphasizing the collective responsibility for harmonious development. The participants committed to promoting messages of tolerance, civic responsibility, and social cohesion to sustainably consolidate peace in Zons©.
