Houet: The municipality of Satiri is raising awareness among residents about the risks associated with stagnant water. The president of the Special Delegation of the commune of Satiri, Emmanuel Ou©draogo, led a vast awareness campaign on Tuesday on the risks associated with stagnant water in the village of Satiri.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Ou©draogo was accompanied by the head nurse of the Satiri Health and Social Promotion Centre (CSPS), the brigade commander of the Gendarmerie, the head of the departmental Water and Forestry service, the secretary general of the town hall, the head of the Humanitarian Action service, as well as several heads of technical services. During this tour, the PDS urged residents to install pits for the disposal of toilet waste and household wastewater to prevent stagnation in the streets. He emphasized that this situation hinders pedestrian traffic, degrades the living environment, and contributes to unsanitary conditions.

The head of the municipality also pointed out that stagnant water provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes, the main vectors of malaria, one of the leading causes of visits to health facilities. Speaking on behalf of the residents, Yaya Traor© welcomed this initiative by the municipal authorities. He thanked the delegation for this community-based action and encouraged the residents to implement the recommendations made in order to sustainably improve sanitation in the village and contribute to the prevention of wastewater-related diseases.

Through this campaign, the municipal authorities urge residents to adopt simple sanitation practices over the next two weeks, including wastewater drainage, the construction of drainage pits and regular maintenance of the areas around homes, in order to preserve a healthy living environment and strengthen the fight against waterborne diseases.
