According to Burkina Information Agency, Lassan© Compaor© emphasized that corruption should be viewed as a significant threat to the security and sovereignty of Burkina Faso. He highlighted that in the context of the Confederation of Sahel States, corruption poses a direct challenge to national efforts aimed at territory reclamation, development, and state rebuilding. Compaor© noted that diverted resources weaken the Defense and Security Forces, Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, and deprive social sectors and vulnerable populations of crucial support.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Compaor© provided details on the forthcoming African Anti-Corruption Day, which is continentally celebrated on July 11 under the theme: "Intensifying the promotion of integrity and anti-corruption actions across Africa." He stressed that in Burkina Faso, the day aligns with national priorities, including fighting corruption, reclaiming national territory, and restructuring the state.
The ASCE-LC outlined that this year's theme urges the creation of a culture of accountability that involves every citizen, from families to state leaders. This 2026 edition, marked by austerity, aims to advocate for stringent management of public funds.
The day's program in Loumbila will feature an official ceremony, panel discussions, and opportunities for public engagement with governance stakeholders, focusing on corruption prevention and denunciation mechanisms. Activities will revolve around five key areas: integrity education from a young age, involvement of religious and customary authorities, promotion of cultural values, family role in civic education, and leveraging digital tools for public management transparency.
Compaor© praised the Burkinabe authorities for reforms enhancing transparency and good governance, reflecting a commitment to restoring public trust in institutions. He also referenced an appeal by Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, urging unity and productivity among the Confederation of Sahel States on its second anniversary on July 6th.
An SMS awareness campaign and a joint message dissemination with anti-corruption stakeholders are part of the 2026 Anti-Corruption Day measures. The Comptroller General called on media professionals to support integrity-promoting actions, encouraging them to help foster a culture of probity and accountability in Burkina Faso.
