Ouagadougou: The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, announced the launch of Operation WIBGA III on July 8, 2026, to further strengthen security across Burkina Faso. This initiative aims to build on the achievements of the previous phase and enhance the nation's security framework.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the announcement followed the presentation of Operation WIBGA II's results, highlighting the commitment of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in safeguarding the nation and reinforcing state authority. Conducted from April 28 to June 22, 2026, Operation WIBGA II led to the arrest of 1,798 individuals, with 625 facing legal proceedings. Additionally, the operation saw the seizure of 7,076 vehicles and the recovery of 140,572,600 FCFA in fines.
Minister Sana commended the FDS for their dedication and praised the collaborative efforts of administrative and judicial authorities, local communities, and traditional and religious leaders. He noted that the positive results and reduced crime rate in the first half of 2026 were due to the effective partnership between security forces and citizens.
He emphasized that the cooperation between the public and security forces is crucial in combating terrorism, organized crime, and other illegal activities. Operation WIBGA III will focus on preventive and enforcement actions, including increased patrols, traffic controls, securing public spaces, and developing local intelligence. The operation will also target offenders, illegal products, and dismantling criminal networks.
Minister Sana reaffirmed the government's commitment to tackling security challenges and urged citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and adhere to security protocols.
