Kadiogo: An Association Raises Awareness Among Young People in District 8 About Social Cohesion

Ouagadougou: The Young Peacemakers Association (JFP) organized on Tuesday at the town hall of the 8th district of Ouagadougou, the sixth stage of its peace caravan called 'Seed of Cohesion', with a view to raising awareness among young people about civic responsibility, social cohesion and the prevention of radicalization.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the association (JFP) stated that the initiative aims to strengthen community cohesion through local actions, the promotion of interreligious tolerance, civic-mindedness and prevention against hate speech and radicalization. Hermann Guingane, the president of the Young Peacemakers association, noted that this stage marks half of the caravan's journey through the twelve districts of the municipality of Ouagadougou, after its launch in November 2025.

"Faced with attempts to destabilize our social fabric, our response must be unity, resilience and grassroots action," said Mr. Guingane, inviting young people to become ambassadors of peace in their neighborhoods. He also emphasized that the "Peace Cells" set up by the association aim to ensure citizen monitoring and promote dialogue within communities.

The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of District No. 8, Alidou Congo, welcomed the initiative while expressing concern over the low youth participation in the activity. He mentioned that Burkina Faso is experiencing a period that requires a strong sense of duty, sacrifice, and social cohesion from every citizen. The PDS reaffirmed the special delegation's commitment to supporting all initiatives contributing to the consolidation of peace, social cohesion and local development.

The "Seed of Cohesion" peace caravan intends to travel through the twelve districts of the municipality of Ouagadougou to raise awareness among the population, particularly young people, about the values of living together and responsible citizenship. The ceremony's sponsor, El Hadj Sayouba Traore, urged the people of Burkina Faso to prioritize national unity, individual responsibility, and solidarity to face security and social challenges.

"We are first and foremost Burkinab¨," he affirmed, urging the people to reject divisions based on ethnicity, religion or region. The "Seed of Cohesion" peace caravan aims to strengthen community cohesion through awareness-raising activities, community dialogue and the gradual establishment of peace cells in neighborhoods.

Chaired by the PDS of district no. 8, Alidou Congo, and sponsored by El Hadj Sayouba Traore, the ceremony brought together administrative, customary and religious authorities, opinion leaders, young people as well as partners of the association.
