Ouagadougou: High school graduate Sawadogo Sibiri Alfred wins three prizes at the 3rd edition of the Science Olympiad. The Provincial Directorate of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training (DPESFPT) of Bam awarded prizes on Friday in Kongoussi to the best students of the third edition of the province's Science Olympiad, a competition designed to promote excellence and to spark learners' interest in science.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by the High Commissioner of Bam Province, Karim Oudraogo, and sponsored by the President and CEO of OSMOSE GEOTEX, Moukailou Gansonr. The first-place finishers in each discipline received laptops and a school kit, the second-place finishers received tablets and school kits, while the third-place finishers received mountain bikes accompanied by school kits.

Sawadogo Sibiri Alfred, a senior at the Kongoussi Municipal High School, swept the top three prizes in Life and Earth Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics and Chemistry. He won three laptops, a school kit, a letter of commendation, and a scholarship of 100,000 FCFA. In mathematics, he obtained a score of 14.25/20, in physical sciences 14/20, and in life and earth sciences (SVT) 17/20, for an overall average of 15.16/20.

Already admitted to the 2026 baccalaureate with an average of 16.15/20 and a score of 20/20 in mathematics, Sawadogo Sibiri Alfred aims to continue his studies in computer science. For this third edition, 140 students from secondary schools in the communes of Kongoussi, Guibar, Tikar, and Sabc participated in the competition. The candidates were assessed in mathematics, physical sciences, and life and earth sciences before the baccalaureate exam.

Midon Coulibaly, the DPESFPT of Bam, explained that these Olympiads aim to improve the level of students in the science series and to strengthen their performance in the baccalaureate. 'We observed that candidates struggled to achieve results that met our expectations in the baccalaureate exam. But with the performances observed throughout these Olympiads, we have made a qualitative leap and we can say that the objective has been achieved,' he said.

For his part, sponsor Moukailou Gansonr has included his commitment in the call of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor, inviting Burkinabe to invest in youth and skills development. For him, "the promotion of science is essential to train the leaders capable of leading the transformation of Burkina Faso". With his support, the DPESFPT of Bam was able to organize the Olympiads for three consecutive years, welcoming candidates from different municipalities for the composition.

The High Commissioner congratulated the provincial director and all his staff for the exemplary organization of the Olympics. He also congratulated all the award winners on their achievements and encouraged them to make wise choices regarding their university studies.
