Ouagadougou: The Soum Provincial Council for People Living with Disabilities has been officially established. The Soum province now has a Provincial Council for People Living with Disabilities. The body was officially established on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in Djibo, during a meeting chaired by the High Commissioner of the Soum province, Wend Nere Wilfried TOUGMA, in the presence of the provincial director in charge of Family and Solidarity.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this implementation marks the culmination of the process of structuring the single umbrella organization for people living with a disability, initiated in May 2026, in accordance with national guidelines. As part of this process, representative focal points have been designated in the eight medium-sized municipalities of the province to ensure the coordination of actions at the local level.

In the municipality of Djibo, a fully functioning municipality, a municipal council composed of nine members has been established in accordance with the provisions in force. The provincial meeting brought together all the communal focal points as well as the members of the Djibo communal office in order to proceed with the establishment of the provincial body.

At the end of the work, the participants established a Provincial Council composed of twelve members. Comrade Djibrilirou Adama Tamboura has been elected president of this new body, which is responsible for representing and defending the interests of people living with disabilities in the Soum province.

Speaking next, the High Commissioner congratulated the various stakeholders for their commitment throughout the process. He praised their sense of responsibility, discipline, and mobilization, believing that this new structure will contribute to strengthening social inclusion and better addressing the concerns of people living with disabilities in the province.
