Macky Sall Seeks Support from Senegalese President for UN Secretary-General Bid

Ouagadougou: Former Senegalese President Macky Sall informed Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye of his candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations and requested Senegal's support for this international ambition.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Macky Sall was received in audience by President Diomaye Faye to present his approach and the evolution of his candidacy within the selection process launched on November 25, 2025, in New York. During the meeting, Sall outlined the different stages of the procedure and requested his country's support in his bid for the prestigious UN position.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye courteously listened to Sall and welcomed his initiative, as stated by the Senegalese presidency. This meeting is seen as an illustration of the continuity of the State and the permanence of institutions, transcending political trajectories and changes of government.

Macky Sall has committed to regularly updating the Senegalese Head of State on the progress of his candidacy at each stage of the selection process.
