Ouagadougou: The Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Bobo-Dioulasso confirmed, on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the High Court (TGI) of Banfora, the life sentences handed down against four defendants found guilty of rebellion, murder, and damage to public property in the case of the murder of two judicial police officers which occurred in Nafona, in January 2019.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the court determined that the arguments raised by the appellants were insufficient to overturn the verdict rendered at first instance. It therefore upheld the convictions against them.

As a reminder, this case concerns the death of Police Officer Wol© Gilbert Sangar©, serving at the Central Police Station of Banfora, and Police Officer T©l©phone Ky©lem, then Police Commissioner of the district of Soubakani©dougou.

The two officials had died during dramatic events that occurred in the village of Nafona, located in the commune of Soubakani©dougou.

This decision by the Court of Appeal thus confirms the judgment rendered in the first instance in this case which had strongly marked public opinion in the Cascades region.
