Johannesburg: More than 127.5 million CFA francs have been raised since the start of construction on the Grand Mosque of Tenkodogo, allowing approximately 40% of the foundations to be completed. Despite this significant mobilization, the monitoring committee is calling for renewed solidarity to gather the materials and financial resources needed to continue the work during this rainy season.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during a lively press conference on Tuesday, El Hadj Kabiro Sana, a member of the monitoring committee, and Oumarou Guiro, a technician from the Synergie company, indicated that the construction project had incurred expenses of approximately 146 million FCFA. Work, suspended for nearly two months due to financial difficulties, resumed on July 20, 2026, thanks to renewed support from the faithful and other well-wishers.
El Hadj Kabiro Sana noted that the committee raised 18.5 million FCFA at the laying of the foundation stone on October 25, 2025. Since then, financial contributions have exceeded 127.5 million FCFA. The committee notes, however, that pledges of donations totaling nearly 10 million FCFA are still outstanding.
From a technical standpoint, Oumarou Guiro explained that the foundations are approximately 40% complete. The first layer is finished, the columns are in place, and the teams are currently working on the second layer. He emphasized the urgent need to complete the foundation slab to protect the existing structures from heavy rainfall.
To achieve this goal, the construction site still requires 300 tonnes of cement, 34 tonnes of 16 mm diameter rebar, 1,740 m³ of gravel, 400 m³ of sand, as well as financial resources for labor.
The committee nevertheless has a stock of 310 tonnes of CPA 45 cement, 9.5 tonnes of reinforcing steel, 660 m³ of gravel and 600 m³ of sand, acquired thanks to contributions from the faithful, the people of Tenkodogo, the administrative and customary authorities, religious leaders and numerous donors.
The monitoring committee concluded by expressing its gratitude to all contributors, imams, young people, residents of Tenkodogo, sons and daughters of the Nakamb© region, authorities, the media, and the Synergie company. It invited those who had pledged donations and all those willing to contribute to continue their support to ensure the project’s continuation.
As a reminder, the total cost of the project, estimated at 2.108 billion FCFA, is funded by contributions from worshippers and other well-wishers. The aim is to replace the old mosque, built in 1957, with a modern, three-story (ground floor + 3 floors) structure, built on a 4,168 square meter plot of land, with a capacity of 3,450 worshippers.
