Ouagadougou: The LIA FC team emerged victorious in the final of the second edition of the Maracana Vert du D©l©gu© (MVD) Tournament, held on Saturday, July 25 in Ouagadougou. They defeated the reigning champions, KAZA FC, with a decisive score of 2-0.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament, which commenced on July 17 with the participation of eight teams, concluded with a fiercely competitive final. From the start, LIA FC set an aggressive pace, quickly dominating their opponents. Despite KAZA FC’s efforts, LIA FC showcased exceptional finishing skills, with their captain, Charles Niki©ma, and Djalilou Ou©draogo scoring the match’s only goals.

Post-match, Captain Niki©ma credited the victory to the team’s unity and dedication. “We approached this final with the same intensity as previous matches. Our teamwork and determination made the difference,” he remarked. He also lauded the organizers for their innovative approach, which intertwined the sports event with reforestation efforts. “The organization was exceptional. The concept of using tree seedlings as prizes is particularly apt for the rainy season and supports our country’s development. It’s a vision we fully endorse,” he added.

LIA FC’s triumph earned them the tournament trophy, a ball, a set of jerseys, 100,000 CFA francs, and 15 tree saplings. Meanwhile, the runner-up, KAZA FC, received 50,000 CFA francs, a ball, a set of jerseys, and 15 saplings.

According to tournament promoter Brice Ou©draogo, a delegate of the High Council of Burkinabe Abroad and an ambassador for peace, the initiative aims to blend sports with environmental conservation. “Our philosophy has always been to harmonize sports activity with environmental preservation. The authorities support us, and the community embraces this approach. Following the tournament, we will continue with tree planting activities,” he stated.

The competition’s organizers aim to foster social cohesion, promote physical activity among youth, and heighten their commitment to environmental protection.
