Ouagadougou: On the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the death of the former mayor of B©gu©do, Ms. B©atrice Bara/Sawadogo, residents, administrative and traditional authorities, and former colleagues gathered on Saturday to plant trees in a green space within the municipality. Through this living tribute, participants honored the memory of a woman whose commitment to local development continues to inspire generations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony took place in the green space opposite the Kancri mosque. It was presided over by Boukari Khalid Bara, in the presence of relatives, friends, former colleagues, acquaintances of the deceased, as well as several residents who came to honor her memory.
Comrade Pierre Zanr©, secretary at the Grand Chancellery, paid a tribute to the woman he described as exemplary. “She was always punctual and rigorous. A devoted servant. These trees we are planting bear witness to her legacy: roots in the earth, a heart for her people,” he said.
The deceased’s daughter indicated that this tree planting is more than a symbolic gesture and constitutes an act that brings hope for future generations. The head of the Environment Department, Lieutenant Dimasbila Tapsoba, reiterated that the Faso Mªbo initiative is not limited to infrastructure development. He emphasized that reforestation is an essential component, and the planted trees must be maintained to ensure their survival.
The secretary general of the town hall, Romuald Nacoulma, representing the president of the special delegation, as well as Hayouba Bara, representing the chief of the canton of B©gu©do, pledged to support the protection of this grove through awareness campaigns and ongoing dialogue with the farmers.
The deceased’s husband paid tribute to her memory, stating that she was “almost half a man” because of her courage, determination, and sense of duty. ‘We are gathered here today to pay a living tribute to our comrade mayor of B©gu©do. Planting a tree is planting hope, it is affirming that life goes on,’ he said.
Former colleagues of Ms. B©atrice Bara/Sawadogo recalled that her term was marked by actions benefiting the municipality. They cited her “One Neighborhood, One Well” initiative, which helped reduce difficulties in accessing drinking water, as well as her commitment to education through the establishment of academic excellence days.
For them, this grove will perpetuate the memory of an elected official who dedicated her energy to the well-being of the people. “Each tree we plant today will bear his name, his memory and his commitment to a greener and more united community. May they provide shade, fruit and a future for children,” they wished.
Seven years after her passing, this tribute reflects the desire of the people of B©gu©do to preserve the legacy of their former mayor and to pass on to younger generations the values of service, commitment, and environmental protection that she embodied.
