Ouagadougou: The Central Police Station (CCP) of Banfora presented, on Wednesday, two suspected offenders involved in cases of cattle theft and burglaries in the city of Banfora.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Central Police Commissioner Ouattara Diakalya stated that these arrests are part of the ongoing fight against insecurity and the protection of people and their property. The commissioner indicated that the first suspect, who presents himself as a gold panner by profession, specializes in stealing small ruminants. He discreetly moved stray sheep away from the sight of people, leading them into an unfinished courtyard located in sector 14, in the Tangora district. These animals were then transported to Bobo-Dioulasso in transport vehicles commonly called “DINA”, where they were resold.
The central commissioner revealed that precise intelligence enabled the CCP teams in Banfora to arrest the suspect during a check on the Banfora-Bobo-Dioulasso road. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of seven sheep valued at an estimated one million CFA francs. The investigation led to the identification of the animals’ owner, who was subsequently reunited with them.
Addressing the second case, Commissioner Diakalya explained that the second individual arrested is also a professional gold panner and a repeat offender known for burglary offenses. His arrest followed a complaint filed after a burglary committed on the night of May 27, 2026, in a concession located in sector 15 of Banfora. During this operation, various goods and cash with a total estimated value of one million CFA francs were stolen.
After several weeks of investigation, the suspected perpetrator was arrested on July 20, 2026, at around 5 p.m. The investigations led to the seizure of a Sirius 110 brand motorcycle, identified as the product of the May 27 burglary, as well as Indian hemp and a fake automatic pistol. The investigation is continuing to establish the extent of the criminal acts attributable to the suspect, particularly in connection with this weapon found in his possession.
Commissioner Diakalya announced that the two alleged perpetrators will be presented to the Prosecutor of Faso at the High Court of Banfora to answer for the charges against them. He praised the collaboration of the people, which made it possible to obtain these results, and invited them to continue their contribution to the fight against crime by reporting any suspicious behavior through the toll-free numbers 17, 16, and 1010.
