Ouagadougou: The High Commissioner of the Koosin province, Noufo Dembel©, also president of the health council of the health district, presided over the first ordinary session of the consultation framework of the health council for the year 2026. The meeting took place on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, highlighting the government's commitment to strengthening the health system and improving access to quality care for the population.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner emphasized the significance of the issues on the agenda during the session. A key focus was reviewing the implementation of recommendations from previous sessions, where it was noted that two out of four recommendations had been successfully executed. The epidemiological report presented by Djegou Ouali revealed a notable reduction of more than 1,000 malaria cases compared to the previous year, showcasing the district's progress.
The session also reviewed the health district's action plan, as presented by Jonas Bourgou, which pointed out a decrease in human resources across various job categories, though the situation remains fluid. Bourgou highlighted disparities in the functioning of the Management Committees (COGES) across different health facilities, suggesting the need for skill upgrades among members to enhance community involvement in health governance.
Vaccination coverage was another topic of discussion, with Ibrahim Ou©draogo, head of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), stressing the importance of maintaining strong mobilization to ensure optimal vaccination and prevent vaccine-preventable diseases. The assessment revealed some strengths, like the reopening of health facilities, but also weaknesses due to disruptions in vaccination services in certain villages.
Participants engaged in discussions and exchanges that led to recommendations addressing public health concerns. Additionally, the Burkinabe Red Cross presented its intervention areas in the province, focusing on humanitarian assistance, hygiene, nutrition, and supporting vulnerable populations. The High Commissioner commended the partnership between the Burkinabe Red Cross and local authorities for their collaborative efforts in addressing health challenges.
