Ouagadougou: Students from Konkuy-Boho primary school, supported by their elders from high schools and colleges, planted 96 seedlings this Wednesday, August 5, 2026, as part of the "One student, one tree" initiative, in the presence of the school council office, the head of the establishment, and traditional authorities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this reforestation activity is part of the implementation of the school's annual action plan and aims to promote environmental protection and student empowerment. In total, 96 plants consisting of papayas, neems, guavas, baobabs, mahogany, plums, and kapok trees were planted.

The student representative, Emanuel Traor, explained that this plantation responds to the call for the building of the country. "We came to plant these trees because this is our school. President Ibrahim Traor is asking the people to build the country. We must do things ourselves. Nothing should come from elsewhere so that the country is truly independent. That is why the first tree planted this morning is called the tree of the RPP and of real independence," he stated.

The chairman of the school council, Jules Traor, highlighted the necessity of ensuring follow-up of the plants. "It's not just about planting a tree, it's also about taking care of it. We must ensure that no tree planted this morning dies from lack of care," he remarked.

On behalf of the village chief, Bohanou Sanou praised this initiative and encouraged the students to continue their efforts. "It is you, children, who are our hopes for tomorrow. The building of the country belongs to you. A school without shade is a school without shelter. With trees, everyone benefits from their coolness. May peace return to our country," he wished.
