Ouagadougou: The Pissila Vacations Culture and Sport Initiative (PIVACS) has inaugurated the first edition of the Maracana tournament, titled "Resilience," with the theme "Sport and culture, factors of resilience in the municipality of Pissila". This event aims to enhance community resilience amidst security challenges and honor the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament seeks to promote unity, patriotism, and solidarity in a community gradually regaining stability through the dedication of FDS, VDP, and the collective commitment of its people. Ben Wahabo Tamou, president of PIVACS, emphasized the significance of celebrating peace and resilience among the population.

Nine teams from resettled sectors and villages are competing in the tournament, which will continue until August 9, 2026, at the Pissila poultry market grounds. The opening match featured FDS and VDP FC against Saint Jean-Baptiste FC, with the latter securing a 2-0 victory in a display of fair play.

In addition to the Maracana tournament, the event includes various activities such as a women's cycling race, a popular cross-country race with an aerobics session, a p©tanque competition, and awareness sessions. The launch ceremony brought together administrative, military, paramilitary authorities, traditional and religious leaders, sponsors, and the local population.

Issaka Youma, second vice-president of the special delegation, presided over the ceremony and commended the initiative for fostering peace, social cohesion, and solidarity among the youth.
