Ouagadougou: The Belgian Agency for International Cooperation (Enabel) organized an information and brainstorming workshop on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, dedicated to the implementation of five multi-village drinking water supply systems (AEP-MV). The meeting was held in the meeting room of the Koupla Chamber of Commerce and Industry and brought together provincial and municipal officials, as well as officials and staff from the departments responsible for agriculture, water, animal resources, and fisheries in the Nakamb and Oubri regions.According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting aims to create the conditions favorable to the successful implementation of multi-village drinking water supply systems (MVWSS) and to promote peaceful, equitable, and sustainable use of the shared water resource, based on a conflict-sensitive approach. Through several communications and exchanges, participants were equipped to reach a common understanding of the project and the conflict sensitivity approach.It was also a matter of clarifying the roles and responsibilities of the various actors involved in the process, identifying the existing conflict dynamics in the different localities concerned, and highlighting the main points of attention to be taken into account to ensure the success of the process. The work also allowed the various stakeholders to reflect on a roadmap to guide the implementation of the process, with the objective of preventing tensions, strengthening dialogue between actors, and promoting concerted management of water resources.On behalf of the governor of the Nakamb region, the region's secretary general, Tassr Nacoulma, welcomed Enabel's initiative and its support for the region's development. For him, the implementation of the AEP-MV is a noble initiative, particularly in a context where access to water remains a major issue for the population. 'We thank Enabel for its constant support in the development of our region. The construction of these facilities is a noble initiative, as it will contri bute to improving access to drinking water for the population. It is therefore important that all stakeholders work together so that these infrastructures can be built under good conditions and, above all, that they provide lasting benefits to the communities,' he said.For his part, the project manager at Enabel, Sondema Kologo, welcomed the strong turnout. According to him, this participation demonstrates the interest in the project and the need to involve all stakeholders from the earliest stages of the process. "The mobilization of participants clearly shows their interest in this project." For Enabel, it is essential that the stakeholders involved have a common understanding of the objectives, but also of each person's roles and responsibilities. Above all, we want to anticipate potential sources of tension around water resources in order to build an inclusive, concerted and sustainable process,' he explained.The program will be implemented in 20 communes, spread across several regions: 10 communes in the Nakamb region, 6 communes in the Oubri region, and 4 communes in the Kouls region, as well as in the city of Fada N'Gourma. Through this approach, Enabel intends to strengthen consultation between the various stakeholders and promote sustainable and peaceful management of water resources.The conflict-sensitive approach should allow for better consideration of local realities and potential tensions related to access to and use of water, so that future infrastructure effectively meets the needs of populations while contributing to social cohesion.
