9-Year-Old Child Drowns in Sector 23 of Bobo-Dioulasso

Houet: A 9-year-old child, a student in CE1 class, in sector 23 of Bobo-Dioulasso, died by drowning on Thursday, August 27, 2026, after heavy rain fell in the morning, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tragedy occurred near the stream crossing the village of Kiri and sector 23, in the direction of Bama. The deceased child's father explained that Amza Traor© took advantage of the school holidays to visit a welding workshop each morning, returning home at midday for lunch before heading back to the workshop.

"Today, as usual, after returning for lunch, he was supposed to go back to the workshop. As I was on duty outside the city, his uncle had asked him to join the workshop without delay," the father explained.

The child visited the stream with three friends during this period. It was during this outing that he reportedly fell into the water. Panicked, his friends ran to alert the workshop supervisor, who immediately contacted the fire department.

Rescuers found the child's body around 5 p.m., according to information gathered on site by AIB. The police conducted an investigation, after which the body was released to the family, in the presence of landowners and several local residents.
