Citizenship Week in Dissihn Highlights Road Safety Concerns

Ouagadougou: The president of the special delegation of the municipality of Dissihn, Benjamin Nana, in collaboration with the National Road Safety Office (ONASER), marked the commencement of the 14th edition of Citizenship Week with a focus on road safety, under the theme: 'We kill each other on the road'.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, which kicked off on Thursday, August 14, 2026, aims to engage the public in discussions about road incivility and promote responsible behavior to reduce traffic accidents. The five-day event was inaugurated by variste Mda, an advisor to the permanent secretariat of the judiciary, in the presence of administrative and municipal authorities, ONASER officials, and a significant number of residents.

Honor Somda, the organizer of the event, emphasized that traffic accidents are not unavoidable and stressed the need for behavioral change. He called for the active involvement of local authorities in awareness campaigns, highlighting the importance of municipal authorities in making a tangible impact on the community.

Firmin Hien, representing the event's sponsor, endorsed the theme's significance, urging it as a call to action for all Burkinab, particularly those in Dissihn. He encouraged the youth to develop virtues essential for community development.

Benjamin Nana, representing the Democratic and Socialist Party for Dissihn, addressed the current challenges in road safety both in Burkina Faso and his municipality, urging residents to use the week for self-reflection and behavioral change. He encouraged widespread participation in the activities to enhance citizenship and community spirit.

According to the chairman of the organizing committee, Jean-Luc Som, the week will feature several activities, including road safety awareness sessions at key city intersections, educational film screenings, games, competitions, and interactive radio programs. Through these initiatives, ONASER aims to boost road user awareness and reduce risky behaviors in Dissihn.
