Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Head of State, Comrade Captain Ibrahim TRAOR, chaired the weekly Council of Ministers meeting this Thursday, which adopted a 104 billion FCFA project to boost the electrification rate.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Council, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, adopted a report authorising the financing of sectoral initiatives to increase the energy capacity of Burkina Faso.

Minister Yacouba Zabr GOUBA stated that the project, valued at over 104 billion FCFA, aims to strengthen the operational capacities of SONABEL and the new Faso Venem Agency. The objective is to achieve an electrification rate of 70% by 2030 and reduce the country's energy dependence.

"It will also involve providing the National Electricity Company and the Faso Venem Agency with the necessary equipment and infrastructure to enable them to extend the transport and distribution networks," Minister GOUBA explained.
