Ouagadougou: Burkinabe cyclist Soumala Ilboudo emerged victorious in the individual time trial event held on Boulevard Thomas Sankara in Ouagadougou, surpassing his closest opponent, Malian Diamoutn Timoko, at the 2026 Sahel Alliance Games (AES).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the 10.200 km race showcased the dominance of Burkinabe cyclists in a spirited competition between Burkina Faso and Mali, with Niger not participating. Soumala Ilboudo demonstrated exceptional speed, completing the course in 14 minutes, 10.76 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 43.200 km/h, and securing his win over Malian competitor Diamoutn Timoko.
The final standings of the race were as follows: Soumala Ilboudo from Burkina Faso took the top position, followed by Diamoutn Timoko from Mali in second place. Mouni Vincent, also from Burkina Faso, secured the third position, while Wahab Bouda, another Burkinabe, finished fourth. Timoko Diallo from Mali rounded off the top five.
The cycling events will continue with the team time trial scheduled for Friday, September 11th, promising more thrilling action at the Sahel Alliance Games.
