Ouagadougou: The municipality of Padma has been conducting an operation since August 24, 2026 to secure, classify and digitize its civil status registers, in order to preserve its archives and improve the service provided to users.According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation was led by specialized teams from Ouagadougou and took place in two phases at the Padma town hall. The first phase, from August 24 to 25, focused on sorting, classifying, and structuring the registers of birth, marriage, and death certificates. The second phase, from August 31 to September 3, involved the digital processing and electronic archiving of these documents.Dmitri Badolo, president of the special delegation of the municipality of Padma, expressed that this initiative is an important step towards enhancing the preservation of civil registry records and improving services for the population. He commended the efforts of the teams involved and assured that the municipal level is committed to supporting their work.Las sina Millogo, the head of civil registration in Padma, highlighted the significance of prior classification in the digitization process. He explained that this step allowed for better organization of the registers, which will now facilitate the preservation and accessibility of information within civil registration services.This mission aligns with an instruction from the Governor of the Guiriko region, dated August 4, 2026, which was transmitted to the High Commissioner of the Houet province. It announced the missions of the Directorate General for the Modernization of Civil Status (DGMEC) to secure civil records. The digitization effort is expected to reduce risks of deterioration or physical loss of archives, while promoting better availability and traceability of civil status data.
