Sissili: The people of the village of Koalaga, in the commune of Leo, mobilized on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to fill the potholes on National Route 20 (RN20), thus responding to the invitation of the High Commissioner of the province of Sissili, Tewinde Isaac Sia.
According to Burkina Information Agency, armed with shovels, picks, and supported by tricycles for transporting materials, the inhabitants of Koalaga tackled the deterioration of this major road, which had become a real ordeal for motorists and motorcyclists. By a happy coincidence, the High Commissioner of Sissili, Tewinde Isaac Sia, while traveling to the rural commune of Boura, came across local residents hard at work. The provincial official immediately stopped to encourage the community and lend a hand. Alongside his fellow citizens, he even wielded some tools himself before continuing on his way.
Praising this civic engagement, the local leader reiterated the purpose of his initial initiative. 'You are the primary users of this road, even if others use it. It is therefore your duty to maintain it for your own benefit,' he stated. Comrade Sia took the opportunity to reiterate his appeal to residents of other villages along National Route 20 to follow suit. The goal is to preserve this vital artery, which is of strategic importance for opening up the province and boosting its economy.
On the construction site, the young people's determination was evident. For the president of the Koalaga Village Development Council (VDC), this community action is essential for the benefit of all. "This damaged road causes many accidents, damages our vehicles, and slows down our daily commutes. When the provincial authorities issued the call for help, the young people didn't hesitate. This is our way of proving that the development of our district begins first and foremost with our own efforts," he stated.
This day of voluntary maintenance demonstrates a growing local awareness of infrastructure challenges. It also reaffirms the community-based approach to serving the common good that prevails in this part of Burkina Faso.
