Ouagadougou: Women's cooperatives supported in the quest for food self-sufficiency. The simplified cooperative society (SCOOPS) 'Yam Songo' of Gao and the cooperative 'Zind Yondo' of Mao-Nassira received, on Wednesday, a visit from a mission to supervise their agricultural operations, led by the security focal point of the province of Ziro, Lonel Bnao, representing the mission officer of the Nando region to the Presidency of Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the mission aimed to encourage the women members of the two cooperatives involved in agricultural production and to gather their concerns, in order to better understand the difficulties they face in their activities. In Gao, the simplified cooperative society (SCOOPS) "Yam Songo" cultivates an area of more than two hectares dedicated, during the rainy season, to the production of cowpeas and peanuts. In the dry season, the members of the cooperative invest in soap making.

In Mao-Nassira, the "Zind Yondo" cooperative practices market gardening on an area of approximately 1.5 hectares. This activity contributes to the supply of agricultural products to the population. The leaders of the two cooperatives welcomed the mission's approach and the interest shown in their activities, as well as the efforts made by the women to contribute to food production and food self-sufficiency in the commune of Gao.

The delegation also included the head of the ROPI service at the Gao town hall, Moussa Tagnan, and the representative of the UATA, Boukar Oudraogo.
