Ddougou:The regional branch of the National Identification Office (ONI) in Bankui, with support from the High Commission of Mouhoun province, has launched a special operation in Ddougou to enroll Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for the Biometric Identity Card of the Alliance of Sahel States (CIB AES).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation began on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Ddougou multipurpose hall, which was set up as an enrollment site for this purpose. The initiative aims to bring identification services closer to the population while introducing innovative processes in establishing identity documents.

The new digitalized enrollment system replaces older paper-based methods, allowing for instant data transfer from the enrollment site to the processing center in Ouagadougou. This advancement significantly reduces the processing time for issuing the cards, which now takes approximately two to three weeks instead of several months.

Siaka Bako, head of the ONI branch covering Bankui and Sourou regions, emphasized that the initiative is not limited to IDPs but is open to anyone wishing to enroll for their CIB AES. The operation seeks to facilitate access to identification documents and support the free movement of people and goods within the confederal area of the AES.

The initiative has generated considerable enthusiasm among the local population, with many coming to register, and has prompted ONI to reinforce its operations at its Ddougou headquarters. Similar operations have been conducted in other localities in Mouhoun province to help residents obtain their biometric identity cards.
