Ouagadougou: The first session of the Lo Municipal Consultation Framework (CCco) was held this Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in the town hall's reception hall. The discussions focused primarily on combating the proliferation of adulterated beverages and disseminating information about the municipality's new financial resolutions.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Chaired by the Secretary General of the municipality of Lo, Samba Zana, representing the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), Kassoum Koalaga, this meeting aimed to create synergy between local actors for the implementation of the Municipal Development Plan.
On the financial front, Secretary General Zana presented the resolutions adopted during 2026, notably concerning the introduction of new taxes and stamp duties. These measures aim for optimal revenue collection for the benefit of the municipal budget.
However, the issue of adulterated beverages was at the heart of the discussions, given the devastating effects it has had on the population, particularly young people. Speaking on behalf of the district's chief medical officer, Boureima Djiguimd, coordinator of the healthcare units at the Lo Medical Center, described this scourge as "a genuine public health problem." He warned of the dramatic consequences observed daily, such as hepatitis, behavioral disorders, and a surge in traffic accidents resulting in head injuries and permanent disabilities among young people.
To curb this phenomenon, Comrade Djiguimd advocated for a comprehensive census of all establishments selling alcoholic beverages, the creation of a list of authorized products, awareness campaigns in schools and on local radio stations, and the firm enforcement of penalties against offenders. He also called for the involvement of Village Development Councils (VDCs) in detecting fraud on secondary roads.
According to Latifatou Nbi/Nignan, the communal coordinator for women in Lo, young people must "preserve their future by stopping this consumption," and she denounced merchants seeking easy profits. She proposed conducting unannounced inspections of shops, strengthening border controls by the Defense and Security Forces, and encouraging citizens to report illegal vendors.
At the end of the discussions, Secretary General Samba Zana welcomed the quality of the recommendations made and reaffirmed the determination of the municipal administration to implement them in order to clean up the city of Lo.
