Sensitization on Marriage Transcription Held for Sandbondtenga Members

Sandbondtenga:Members of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) in Sandbondtenga were recently briefed on the latest requirements for the transcription of customary and religious marriages into civil status registers. This was part of the second ordinary session of 2026, aligned with the Code of Persons and the Family (CPF).

According to Burkina Information Agency, Kabor© Hamado presented the innovations of Law No. 12-2025 on Family Planning, which was adopted on September 1, 2025. He explained that customary and religious marriages are now officially recognized, provided they are transcribed into the civil registry within two months of the marriage ceremony. If this deadline is missed, a court judgment will be necessary.

The transcription process requires documentation related to the marriage ceremony, identities, birth details of the spouses, and a certificate of a prenuptial visit. Civil registrars are tasked with verifying the age and consent of the spouses, ensuring no impediments to marriage exist, and confirming there is no prior undissolved monogamous marriage. In polygamous unions, previous wives must be informed.

Hamado Kabor© emphasized that this process aims to enhance the legal security of marriages, protect inheritance and social rights, and improve the accuracy of marriage statistics. Marriages conducted before the new CPF's implementation are also eligible for transcription under the stipulated conditions.

The session, chaired by High Commissioner Idrissa Gamsonr©, also addressed local conflict situations, results of the Mandatory Patriotic Immersion, challenges faced by the Burkina Information Agency in the province, and the outcomes and future plans of the NGO CARE. The High Commissioner expressed satisfaction with stakeholders' dedication to local development.
