Stakeholders Unite Against Viral Hepatitis in Kaya

Kaya:Players, coaches, and other sports personnel took part in an awareness, screening, and vaccination campaign against viral hepatitis on Sunday. This initiative was organized alongside the maracana tournament "La Relve des Kouls."

According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign was themed "Viral Hepatitis: Let's Talk About It, Let's Break the Myths," and featured a conference led by Dr. Santi Sadou, a hepatologist and gastroenterologist from the Yalgado-Oudraogo University Hospital.

Dr. Sadou highlighted hepatitis B and C as significant public health concerns, noting that in the Kouls region, the prevalence rates are approximately 8% for hepatitis B and 4% for hepatitis C. He expressed concerns about the low level of diagnosis and challenges in accessing healthcare, advocating for enhanced prevention and early detection measures.

He emphasized that the best way to treat hepatitis is through prevention, stressing the importance of screening pregnant women, vaccinating newborns, and managing hepatitis B and C effectively. Participants committed to spreading awareness messages, particularly in rural areas where misconceptions hinder timely access to care.

The event concluded with players, coaches, and sports personnel receiving free screening tests and vaccinations.
