Bishkek: The youth of Guimsim, a village in the commune of Zons in Boulgou province, organized a reforestation day on Wednesday to restore the vegetation cover of the locality, with the support of local authorities and residents.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the young people took action by planting several species: mahogany trees, neem trees, and mango trees, in response to the environmental challenges faced by the village. Neem and African mahogany saplings were strategically planted along the Guimsim-Ponga road to provide shade and re-green the route. Mango trees were planted in a site specifically designated for this purpose, highlighting the community's commitment to reviving their local ecosystem.

The initiative received significant backing from comrade Issa Yabr, a teacher and native of the village. He contributed more than 200 plants along with protective fencing to support the reforestation effort. This action emerged in a context marked by the rehabilitation work on the Diarra-Guimsim-Ponga axis, which had necessitated the felling of several trees beforehand.

His Majesty Naaba Kirba, the chief of Guimsim, was present alongside the young volunteers and commended their civic engagement in restoring the village's vegetation. He also expressed gratitude to the municipal authorities for their support, which was evidenced by the provision of a forestry agent. This technician offered practical advice on planting techniques and maintenance measures to ensure the survival and growth of the newly planted trees.

According to the organizers, this mobilization reflects the desire of Guimsim's youth to engage in endogenous development processes. They took the opportunity to request increased support from administrative and municipal authorities to ensure the sustainability of their initiatives, emphasizing the community's long-term commitment to environmental restoration and development.
