Judica«l Bayala Claims Victory at Burkina Faso National Weightlifting Championships

Dibougou:The Burkina Faso Weightlifting Federation hosted its 2026 national championships in Dibougou, featuring 60 athletes from eight regions. Judica«l Bayala from Djr emerged victorious in the senior men's over 80 kg category, dethroning the reigning champion Abdoul Razack Ouandaogo of Guiriko.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the competition included five categories U19 women, U19 men, women aged 20 and over, senior men under 80 kg, and senior men over 80 kg. Athletes competed in the snatch and the clean and jerk, with the combined weights determining the winners.

Judica«l Bayala's total of 260 kg, including 120 kg in the snatch and 140 kg in the clean and jerk, secured his victory. Although his opponent lifted the same total weight, Bayala won due to being the lighter athlete. He expressed his gratitude to his supporters and coach, Aboubacar Oudraogo, and shared his aspirations for international competition.

Other notable performances included Batrice Kiemd of Nando winning the U19 women's category with 105 kg, and Romo Zouzoua of Nando taking gold in the U19 men's category with 190 kg.

The event marked the first time the national championships were held in Dibougou. High Commissioner Amidou Konat expressed pride in hosting the event, highlighting the strong performances by the athletes. The vice-president of the federation, Mitibtita Moussa Kabor, noted the choice of Djr as a venue was due to the region's past achievements and the federation's aim to promote weightlifting nationwide.
