Police Enforce Strict Helmet Law in Noumbiel

Bati:Noumbiel After several months of raising awareness among road users, the national police have launched an enforcement campaign in Bati targeting those not wearing helmets. Nearly 50 vehicles were impounded on the first day of the operation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative commenced at 8 am under the supervision of Chief Superintendent Boukary Nana, the provincial police director of Noumbiel. The operation involved officers from the central police station of Bati and the Republican Security Company (CRS), who conducted checks on several main roads in the city.

Police officers stopped vehicles whose drivers violated the helmet law, impounded the vehicles, and fined their owners 3,000 FCFA. To recover their vehicles, offenders must pay the fine and present a helmet.

The campaign aims to enforce helmet use and reduce traffic accident risks. On the first day, nearly 50 two- and three-wheeled vehicles were seized for non-compliance.

Chief Superintendent Boukary Nana emphasized that the awareness phase has ended and a 'zero tolerance' policy is now in effect. He stressed that all motorcycle and tricycle riders must wear helmets to avoid vehicle confiscation and fines. Despite the enforcement, some road users are attempting to bypass the checks. Nana urged everyone to make helmet use a habit for their safety and health.
