Elyse Sourabi and Esaïe Sombi Celebrated for World Championship Victories

Orodara:The Secretary General of Kndougou Province, Bassama K, representing High Commissioner Saïdou Sakira, extended a warm welcome to Elyse Sourabi and his younger brother, Esaïe Sombi, in Orodara. The two athletes were celebrated as world champions following their success at an international competition in Italy.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony took place at the High Commission and was attended by provincial directors, department heads, and the athletes' families and supporters. Elyse Sourabi claimed the world champion title in combat at the Vocotruyen Vo Vietnam World Tournament, held from September 8th to October 4th, 2026, where he also secured a gold medal.

Esaïe Sombi shone in his category, winning the world champion title in long guns in the junior division, alongside a gold medal. Additionally, his performances in short guns, bare-handed technique, and demonstration earned him three silver medals and the title of vice-world champion in these disciplines.

Paulin Oudraogo, the athletes' coach, highlighted their achievements as a testament to the dedication and talent of Burkinabe youth, underscoring the years of work, discipline, and sacrifice behind their success. He expressed gratitude to all supporters of their journey.

Elyse Sourabi expressed his appreciation for the warm reception from the provincial authorities and the local community. He mentioned that it motivates them to continue representing Burkina Faso with distinction in future international competitions.

Bassama K, on behalf of the High Commissioner, praised the athletes for their achievements, stating that their success brings honor not only to Kndougou but to all of Burkina Faso. He encouraged them to maintain their high standards and continue to elevate the country's international standing.
