Bobo-Dioulasso:The National Agency for the Promotion of Inclusive Finance (ANPFI) conducted a workshop on October 7 and 8, 2026, aimed at educating media professionals about financial inclusion, consumer protection, and financial mediation. The event took place in Bobo-Dioulasso and gathered approximately forty media and communication experts from various regions including Guiriko, Djôrô, Tannounyan, and Nando.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop featured presentations and discussions on the challenges associated with inclusive finance and the protection of financial service users. Fousseni Traoré, Chief of Staff to the Governor of the Guiriko region, inaugurated the event, highlighting the critical role of quality information in facilitating access to financial services and the importance of consumer protection awareness.
Wango Fidèle Yaméogo, Director General of ANPFI and Technical Secretary of the Observatory for the Quality of Financial Services in Burkina Faso (OQSF-BF), emphasized the necessity of continuous dialogue between institutions and the media to enhance understanding of financial inclusion and service quality issues.
On the first day, attendees received insights into financial inclusion in Burkina Faso, its stakeholders, and challenges. Presentations covered the ANPFI’s missions and achievements, as well as the role of the OQSF-BF in protecting financial service consumers and the rights and responsibilities of users.
The second day focused on financial mediation, with sessions on its principles and the mediation system of OQSF-BF. Participants learned about the financial mediator's role and discussed the procedures for engaging with the mediation process.
Financial mediator Évariste Diasso stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the mediation process, noting that various initiatives are underway to promote this dispute resolution mechanism across different regions. He pointed out that users can access the system through a complaint management tool, WhatsApp, a toll-free number, and in languages such as Mooré, Dioula, and Fulfulde.
Amadou Oury Sanou, Director of Communications at ANPFI, highlighted the media's role in promoting OQSF-BF and its mediation program, advocating for strengthened collaboration to improve information dissemination.
Journalist Ben Alassane Dao from L'Express du Faso expressed his commitment to prioritizing financial inclusion and consumer protection in his reporting, recognizing the workshop's significance in enhancing understanding of these issues.
The workshop aimed to empower media professionals as effective intermediaries in communicating financial inclusion and consumer protection topics to the public.
