Barsalogho Livestock Farmers Rally for National Vaccination Drive

Barsalogho:Livestock farmers in the commune of Barsalogho are actively participating in the national livestock vaccination campaign, with nearly 1,600 small ruminants vaccinated over two days, October 6 and 7, 2026, as reported by Bonhaouf Bonkoungou, head of the livestock zone.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this vaccination effort is part of the second phase of the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive (OPAH 2), which aims to enhance the protection of national livestock from major animal diseases. The campaign has seen substantial support from local farmers who have gathered at designated points with their animals, indicating their commitment to the initiative.

Abdou-Rahmane Sawadogo, a livestock farmer from the Boll district, emphasized the importance of the campaign. "This is very beneficial, as it will allow us to protect our animals against diseases. Beyond agriculture, livestock farming constitutes our main source of income. We will mobilize everyone," he stated.

Bonhaouf Bonkoungou noted the enthusiasm among farmers, seeing it as evidence of their support for OPAH 2 operations, and urged further mobilization to meet the campaign's goals. The campaign targets diseases such as Peste des petits ruminants (PPR), Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), Contagious Lump-Switch Disease (CND), and Pasteurellosis.

The national livestock vaccination campaign, initiated in August 2026, is scheduled to continue until December 31, 2026, covering villages within Barsalogho commune. Comrade Bonkoungou highlighted the goal of ensuring all animals are vaccinated, contributing to the rebuilding of livestock herds and supporting the economic empowerment of returning populations. So far, over 10,000 poultry and more than 5,000 ruminants have been vaccinated in Barsalogho commune.
