Barsalogho Farmers Actively Participate in National Livestock Vaccination Campaign

Barsalogho:Livestock farmers in Barsalogho have actively engaged in the national livestock vaccination campaign, successfully vaccinating nearly 1,600 small ruminants over two days, October 6 and 7, 2026, as reported by the head of the livestock zone, Bonhaouf Bonkoungou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the vaccination initiative is part of the second phase of the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive (OPAH 2), which aims to enhance the protection of national livestock against major animal diseases. The campaign has seen significant participation from farmers in various sectors of Barsalogho.

The vaccination campaign, which targets diseases such as Peste des petits ruminants (PPR), Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), Contagious Lump-Switch Disease (CND), and Pasteurellosis, has seen farmers from surrounding areas bringing their animals to designated points for vaccination. This demonstrates strong support for the initiative.

Abdou-Rahmane Sawadogo, a livestock farmer from the Boll district, emphasized the importance of the campaign, noting that livestock farming is a key source of income for the community. He urged fellow farmers to support the initiative to protect their animals against diseases.

The ongoing 2025-2026 national livestock vaccination campaign, launched in August 2026, continues in the Barsalogho commune and is scheduled to run until December 31, 2026. To date, the campaign has successfully vaccinated more than 10,000 poultry and over 5,000 ruminants in the area. Comrade Bonkoungou highlighted that the goal is to ensure no animal is left unvaccinated, contributing to the rebuilding of livestock herds and the economic empowerment of returning populations.
