Pink October Campaign Launched in Ziniare to Enhance Cancer Screening for Women

Ziniare:The Secretary General of the Bassitenga Province, Esther Tamalgo, officially launched Pink October 2026 activities on Tuesday at the Ziniare Urban Health and Social Promotion Centre. This initiative is focused on raising awareness and promoting screening for breast and cervical cancer.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign operates under the theme "Every screening is a life saved and every woman's life saved is a family saved." It aims to improve women's access to screening services and strengthen community prevention efforts.

The governor's message, delivered by Esther Tamalgo, highlighted the critical role of early detection in increasing treatment success rates. Emphasizing that "Early detection saves lives," it noted that earlier detection expands treatment options.

Data revealed at the event showed that Burkina Faso recorded 1,035 cancer-related deaths in 2024. In the Oubri region alone, fifty cases of abnormalities were detected through ultrasound-mammography between 2024 and 2025.

To combat these diseases more effectively, health authorities plan to intensify screening activities throughout October. A mobile clinic will provide screenings, consultations, ultrasounds, and breast self-examination demonstrations at multiple locations.

Authorities are determined to broaden testing access while encouraging community participation. "Everyone's contribution will strengthen prevention efforts," said Esther Tamalgo on behalf of the governor.

Mohamed Oumar Tiam, the acting chief medical officer of the Ziniare health district, urged women to adopt preventive measures and to pay attention to any unusual signs.
