Reo:Sanguie The High Commissioner of Sanguie, Talari Germaine Ouoba, has encouraged women in the province to harness their entrepreneurial potential and explore industries beyond traditional roles such as hairdressing and sewing. She made this call at the "Pagb Yidgr Soore" ("Women's Entrepreneurship") communication campaign, initiated on October 10 as part of the SWEDD+ project, which focuses on Women's Empowerment and Demographic Dividend in Sub-Saharan Africa.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign's fifth day was held in Reo, where meetings with traditional and administrative authorities took place. During these discussions, there was a shared desire for women to engage in sectors like construction and tile-laying. High Commissioner Ouoba emphasized the untapped talents of women, stating that they can excel in various fields if given the opportunity.
Efforts are underway to raise awareness and build skills. Fatimata Cherife Zongo/Ouedraogo, the provincial director of Family and Solidarity, noted that adolescent girls previously working on mining sites have been retrained and are now learning new skills in workshops. She highlighted the significant role women play in supporting family expenses and education through their economic activities.
Sindi Issaka Zagre, president of the special delegation of the commune of Reo, urged local stakeholders to ease women's access to land, committing to support ongoing initiatives. The SWEDD+ project, backed by the Health Development Support Program (PADS), the United Nations Population Fund, the World Bank, and partner ministries, has received commendation for its support.
Balima Bassole, representing customary authorities, also pledged their backing for the initiative. In addition, women in Reo benefited from health screenings for various conditions, with Dr. Anselme Brice Sie Hien of the Reo medical center advocating for more resources to continue these healthcare services.
Amina Compaore/Zalle, communications officer for the SWEDD+ project, praised the "Pagb Yidgr Soore" campaign for fostering a supportive environment for women's entrepreneurship in regions like Nando, Yaadga, and Koulse, noting the positive reception from the communities involved.
