Yaadga:Governor Thomas Yampa of the Yaadga region recently visited the Barma-Mossi and Koudoumbo areas within the communes of Kalsaka and Gourcy to review the ongoing 2026-2027 agro-pastoral campaign. During his visit, he encouraged young people to participate in agricultural activities to enhance food sovereignty.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Governor's first stop was the Barma-Mossi rice-growing lowland in Yatenga province, which spans 80 hectares and employs 421 individuals, including 286 women, 135 men, and 18 internally displaced persons. The site anticipates a harvest of over 400 tons of rice, projected to generate 69,840,000 CFA francs in revenue with a profit of 43,040,000 CFA francs. The local population's relinquishment of land to expand the lowland was praised as a gesture of community spirit.
The participatory approach known as "Tin-Taan Soani," or "let's develop together" in Gulmancema, used in Barma-Mossi, attracted significant attention from regional authorities. This community mobilization strategy, already adopted in many localities, exemplifies agricultural development potential and is becoming widespread.
In Koudoumbo, situated in the Zondoma region, a 46-hectare rice-growing area is cultivated by 315 people, including 184 women and 131 men. The production there is expected to yield 174.8 tonnes of rice, with a projected profit of 32,522,000 CFA francs.
Governor Yampa expressed satisfaction with the production outlook and encouraged continued efforts to boost agricultural output. He emphasized the need to support producers and urged youth involvement in agriculture to ensure food sovereignty.
Local residents expressed gratitude to the Defense and Security Forces and the RESI 2P Programme, along with the agriculture ministry, for their support. They also requested further investments such as drilling, off-season cultivation site development, intensified phytosanitary monitoring, and continued producer awareness initiatives.
Governor Yampa commended the courage and resilience of the producers and promised to relay their concerns to higher authorities. He also called for strengthened social cohesion and cooperation with security forces.
