Paris:French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has announced the implementation of partial curfews in response to recent violence in certain urban centers across the country. The move follows a weekend of unrest in multiple major cities, and although a state of emergency was not ruled out, it is not currently being enacted.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized that the chaos is "very localized" and not widespread. He has instructed prefects to impose partial curfews starting Monday evening to manage the violence. These measures aim to protect businesses that have been affected by the disorder.
Following an interministerial crisis meeting in Paris, Lecornu highlighted that these curfews are part of a broader strategy to maintain order. Over the weekend, nearly 2,400 individuals were arrested nationwide, and the Prime Minister has promised a significant criminal response. An increase in police and gendarmerie presence is also planned, especially for the upcoming weekend.
Despite the disturbances, Lecornu assured that there would be no disruption to scheduled events, including the PSG-Barcelona football match on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Yellow Vests movement has called for a renewed protest, "Act II," on Saturday, October 24, demanding the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron.
