Koudougou:Doctoral student Sekou Savadogo has successfully defended his thesis in educational sciences, with a focus on measurement and evaluation, at Norbert Zongo University of Koudougou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Savadogo was awarded his doctorate with the highest distinction following a presentation and subsequent discussions with the jury members. His research was centered on evaluating new teaching tools introduced as part of the primary school curriculum reform, particularly the new French textbooks for the first year of primary school in Burkina Faso.
Savadogo's study examined the adoption and usage of these tools by teachers to enhance learning quality. The research highlighted both the strengths of these manuals and the challenges teachers face in mastering them. Professor Joseph BEogo, the jury chairman and an expert in educational sciences and policy, commended Savadogo for his presentation and mastery of the topic, noting the potential for the study to serve as a scientific reference in the Burkinabe education system.
The thesis supervisor, Professor François Sawadogo, emphasized the findings' relevance to ongoing teacher training. He suggested that the research could inform the development of training content suited to real-world challenges. The jury also included Dr. P. Marie Bernadin OuEdraogo, Dr. Ibrahima TraorE as rapporteurs, and Professor Bawala LEopold Badolo as the examiner.
After his defense, Savadogo expressed gratitude to the jury, the doctoral school, and the LAPAME laboratory for their support. He hopes that the recommendations from his work will be considered by authorities to improve the use of new textbooks by teachers.
