Dori:Liptako The governor of the Liptako region, Abdoul Karim Zongo, has called for the region to become a benchmark for the Sovereignty League, a new national sports competition. During a presentation in Dori, Zongo introduced the presidential initiative to administrative authorities and sports stakeholders, urging them to engage fully in its implementation to elevate Liptako as a leader in sports development.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Sovereignty League is slated to begin in October 2026, following its official launch on October 12, 2026, by the President of Faso. The initiative aims to enhance high-level football across the country's regions as part of the Presidential Initiative for the succession and promotion of the elite.

The competition seeks to bring top-tier football closer to the populace, identify young talents, and contribute to the advancement of Burkinabe sport. Governor Zongo encouraged sports stakeholders in Liptako to embrace the initiative to maximize the opportunities it offers.

During the meeting, Governor Zongo elaborated on the competition's implementation, covering aspects like technical staff recruitment, player eligibility criteria, and organizational requirements for the regional team. Participants expressed concerns about the region's inadequate sports infrastructure, which could hinder team preparation and local football development.

In response, Zongo assured stakeholders of the Ministry of Sports' support in addressing these challenges. He urged collaboration among administrative authorities and sports officials to overcome organizational and infrastructural obstacles associated with the competition.

The Sovereignty League will feature 20 teams from Burkina Faso's 17 regions, with Kadiogo represented by three teams and Guiriko by two. The initiative not only aims to promote local talent and professionalize Burkinabe football but also expects to create nearly 1,000 direct jobs. For Liptako, the focus will be on mobilizing stakeholders to leverage the competition for talent detection and regional football promotion.
